Hiatus

They will be no further posts from Dr Grumble until he has had his broadband connection restored.

If anybody at Tiscali wishes to fix the problem (and it seems nobody does) the job number is UKHD00002990901. At the moment it looks as if the best bet is to give up on Tiscali and find another service provider. Hey-ho.

Give up on Tiscali, Dr G. They're crap. I was with them for two weeks and it was two weeks too long..

May I recommend Waitrose! They are expensive £18/month but their support is excellent.

Virgin seem alright so far, for me. Cheaper than those recommended above too.

A very nice man called Sean from Tiscali is working hard to solve the problem. They have even sent a BT engineer to Dr Grumble's house. Dr Grumble is receiving regular updates from Sean on the progress. Still no connection yet but they do seem to be doing what they can and seem confident that they can fix the problem soon.

Thanks Tiscali.

Dr. G, if, and when, Tiscali have fixed your broadband link I would advise checking the "samknows" website to see if your local exchange is enabled for any LLU providers.

Assuming you are not too distant from said exchange, you'd do yourself a power good by ridding yourself of the reliance on BT's networks and choose O2, BE or a Cable&Wireless reseller for your broadband.

My 16mb C&W LLU connection is just £14.99 + vat per month with unmetered usage.

There is some progress. A one way telephone line - you cannot receive calls but you can make them and an internet connection. Dr G can live with that.

Tiscali really do seem to be pulling the stops out now. Do you think they read Dr Grumble?

Thanks to all those who have made suggestions. Dr Grumble was minded to give Waitrose a go because others had told him how good they are but they are not taking any new broadband subscribers. That, of course, is a good sign. They probably don't want to take on work they cannot handle.

For the record, Sean from Tiscali has continued to be really helpful. He has been liaising with BT in a very firm manner and is not going to abandon Dr Grumble until the problem has definitely been cracked.
