"By putting power in the hands of people we have created a powerful engine for reform. Where once we had to rely on national targets to drive improvements, we can now drive change through the influence of patients. This will be the basis on which we renew our vision for the future." (pdf)
Katharine Whitehorn on the right with the placard.
If power is in the hands of the people why are respectable people like Katharine Whitehorn out on the streets protesting for only the second time in her life? Answer that Mr Burnham. Or maybe we could have a comment from the opposition about how they might genuinely listen to what people really want from their NHS.

Nice observations from Whitehorn here (touching on why an ideological belief markets is often problematic );

She says ........
"what's really been the only politically correct thing to say under Mrs Thatcher, and under Tony Blair, is to assume that competition is BETTER than co-operation, that it's the only useful spur to action. Since too many people don't believe in God these days, they can still have the spiritual comfort of believing in The Market instead".
Meanwhile NuLab churn out another glossy brochure, and only 60 odd pages this time - well done, Andy.
What a depressingly predictable pile of vacuous tripe that document is.
It is an election year, expect to hear lots of silly soundbites and nonsence (not just with regards to healthcare)
