Two quotes

The first quote is from Lord Darzi:

When a clinician sees a patient it can be something of a one way conversation, with the clinician simply talking about a diagnosis or treatment.

It's hard to believe that any competent doctor could write something like that.

The second quote is from a Department of Health spokesperson

We greatly value the key role of doctors...............

It's hard to believe that any competent health department needs to say something like that - about anything.

When the Department of Health claimed they valued doctors they must have meant Lord Darzi.

If I were being snide, Dr G, I might say that the Darzi comment reflects the practise of a certain sub-school of surgeons in particular...

...but to hear it coming from the Govt's favourite doctor is deeply depressing.

I wonder if surgeons make good management consultants?

Brilliant - that's just made my day!

I have worked for a number of organisations that have repeatedly referred to themsleves as world class. If you need to do this it means you are not world class. In the same way if the Department of Health needs to put out a statement that it values doctors this really confirms what we all know which is that it does not value doctors.

Here's another quote from Lord Darzi for you Dr G: “The idea that I am going to herd all GPs into one large building is ludicrous.” So we can now all heave a great sigh of relief.
